Elmien on the farm

Smittie - Fresian
Her name is Lilly - can you guess why?!
Iris
Iris again
Pose for the picture!

Man, I want that peacock like, so bad!!!

I was trying to take pictures and this one hid from me..... :)

awww - isn't that soooo cute!

In close contact with my food.

oh, so young and so lively!
Foot-in-mouth disease!
This wiggly thing won't keep still!!!!!!!!

yes, that is a hole in the cow's head - where her rotten horn used to be.
salt - to heal and sterilize the wound and to dry up the fluids.
a tar substance - to seal the wound to keep the "maaiers" out. Sorry, I don't know the english. It's the eggs the flies lay that become worms.
Ok, done with the sick cows, now the healthy ones - Branding time!

The older cows that already have little horns have to have theirs cut off for the branding. Wimpie cutting a horn [with a wire].
Branding the horn.

And another one...."Thank goodness I only have two!"

Elmien took her schoolwork and went to the farm for a week where some intersting things happened. If you haven't got the stomach.... I'm sorry, but this is farm life!
